Nancy Figueroa was born Nancy Jane Chevis in Columbus, Mississippi on June 29, 1946 to the late Beatrice and George Chevis. She was the sixth of nine children: Dennie Lee Chevis, George Chevis, Kallie Mae (Eugene) Glover, John “L.” Chevis, Ophelia Prowell, John “Mack” (Sarah) Chevis, Percy Lee Chevis and Frances “Cookie” (Jerome) Bradley.
Nancy graduated from R.E. Hunt High School and made Grand Rapids, Michigan her home in 1966. On May 28, 1978, she was united in holy matrimony to Leopoldo Figueroa, Jr., whom she met at General Motors (“GM”). After working for thirty years at GM, Nancy retired in 2002.
At an early age Nancy accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal savior and was an active member of Bethel Seventh-day Adventist Church and Maranatha Bible Fellowship. She loved to sing melodies of praise, share her faith with others and open her home to those in need.
She leaves to cherish her memories two sons, Michael and Leopoldo III (Sherry) and one daughter, Michele (Donald); five grandchildren, Donovan, Christopher, Taelor, Destiny and Leo IV; and loved nieces, nephews, cousins, god-children and friends.
