Mr. and Mrs. Overbey, I've just learned of Toni's passing and my heart felt heavy. I offer my sincerest condolences for your loss. Natalie was one of my greatest friends and she will be truly missed. I wondered why she would not return my calls, texts or emails? But God called and his call was most important to answer. I will continually pray for the family. Unbelievable in the flesh, but as a believer, I know she is in a better place. I love Natalie and will always remember that smile, that laugh, no go getter, don't take no mess, but will always have your back, Natalie Carol Overbey.

This is so crazy. I am just now seeing this page. I had a feeling she had passed when I didn't hear from her for about a week. I actually talked to her when she told me something was going on with her heart and some other problems. I was telling her to take it easy and get better. A couple of days later I was in the hospital and found out I had congestive heart failure and diabetes. I knew Toni for a while via email and the phone. I never got a chance to see her face to face. I was always talking about making her my wife. That's how good of a woman I found out she was. If her, or I needed to talk to somebody we were there for each other. She was definitely somebody who made me a better person. I am definitely a representative for her and will live life to the fullest like she did. I will miss her so much. I love you. I hope the family is doing ok and being strong.

Natalie was so much more than a cousin to me. She is an inspiration and a reminder to stand and be true. There will be a hole in my heart from losing her and Ill never find the words to show how much I love her. We joked as teenagers about moving to NY and getting jobs and an apartment together. Then as adults I remember trying to convince her to live with me in NC. Even though it never happened she will live in my spirit and I will inherit the lessons she left me. She was the one that told me to never hold grudges and smile even when I was in pain. She would always remind me of the importance of family and to never give up on them. I know heaven is a better place now that she is with The Lord. As our days are numbered I will live mine to the fullest so that there will be plenty for us to share once I see you again.

Toni, You kept another one from me!:)LOL! You have gone on a fabulous endless vacation from this life and you did'nt even give me a heads up. Its ok, though!:) A trip to see God is the most fabulous journey one can take and it is reserved for angels just like you. I am so overwhelmed by your lost that I just keep looking at pictures of your beautiful face. I want to cry, so I can release the hurt, but I can't. Your smile makes me smile. It makes me remember that laugh, our sharing,our silliness, your apartment in Lansing, our sleepover... it makes me remember you. I think about the joy I felt when we graduated and the joy I felt when you passed the Bar. You were so strong, so determined, so beautiful, you never gave up!!! <now I'm crying> You were amazing and I am so glad that I was able to call you friend. Oh, Toni I will miss your laughter and your silliness! Who else could could a middle aged woman, and 9 year old boy, call to sing Jingle Bells Batman Smells to? No one but you. Such laughter! I know that you'll be sharing that contagious laugh with the angels. I am envious of them, because I will SO miss laughing with you.

Natalie was full of life, lots of creative energies and a joy to be around. She accomplished so much in a short period of time. I know where she is.... up in heaven with Sharon, My Dad and Grand Dad. I was Toni's mentor for the past year. I am stunned and confused and extremely saddened that she is gone. I looked do forward to being with her tomorrow and the next couple days of trial advocacy classes for which she received a scholarship. The overbey family must be heartbroken with the loss of this ball o' fire. I'm still numb and waiting to see Toni tomorrow ....

Natalie I have known you since the 7th gradE you were the only one who would agree to wear those crazy braids with Barrett's on the end... We were so cool remember and our attempts to skip school always ended with a wait a minute I think I have a test or my mom is going to beat me if she finds out, it never happened. You were the last person I saw before I moved to north carolina and you begged me to stay in Grand Rapids, I never knew that would be the last time I would see you. I miss you more than words can say and love you even more. Really an angel filled with laughter and gone too soon, I don't think I ever saw you frown. I will remember to do that in my own life. I met Toni when she took a job as a temporary proofreader at MEA. She told me that the job was God's way of helping teach her the importance of good spelling and grammar, points that had occasionally challenged her on her own writing assignments over the years. She was eager to learn and took time to get things right, to ask questions when she didn't know an answer, and always with a smile or a funny comment. She was a wonderful co-worker and will surely be missed by many. Wishing peace and comfort for her family.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family and loved ones at this difficult time. We pray they are sustained through what must be unbearable grief. For us, her colleagues, we are stunned and deeply saddened. Toni came into our office, and our lives, like a whirlwind when she became our local field membership processor in June 2012! She was young (32 years old), skilled (an attorney), knowledgeable, and tenacious. Her professionalism was solid. Her compassion and dedication to MEA members was very obvious through the high quality of her work. There wasn't anything she wouldn't do on behalf of our members including staying late or arriving early, particularly for our local membership chairs. Oh, and her laugh... Her laugh was loud, and her beautiful smile--infectious. Toni was a bright, classy, bubbling bottle of champagne-- sparkling, effervescent, with a lot of kick! Toni spent her personal time starting up her own local law practice in Grand Rapids. She was dedicated to working with those less fortunate and advocating for the disenfranchised in our community. SHE WILL BE MISSED for all of the reasons previously mentioned, but perhaps even more, she will be missed for the future hope and promise she represented to us at KCEA, MEA and beyond. She was a young, elegant, and passionate fighter for working class people, and we are all the better that she crossed our paths.

My thoughts and prayers are with the Overbey family during this time. I met Toni in August when I started working with her at the MEA Grand Rapids office. What an amazing young lady, loved her laughter and that contagious smile. She warned me that she “speaks her mind and calls things what they are!” I told her we’d get along just great. I found her bark was much worse than her bite and she was a kind, caring soul. She was so helpful and I loved hearing about her travels and listen to her compassion for her family. She truly touched my heart and I will miss her greatly. I am truly blessed to have met one of God’s angels. Rest in Peace Toni.

Natalie where do I begin...... We meet when we were kids and maintained our friendship into adulthood and I can honestly say it's rare to communicate and still be able to call someone a TRUE friend that you've known since you were a child. I would always tell you each time we talked, how proud I am of you as well as how much I miss and love you. No matter how serious our conversations were about life, careers, relationships etc. we couldn't have one conversation without cracking up laughing!! LOL!! Toni was someone that touched my heart shortly after we first met. I had the pleasure of working with her in the MEA Legal Services Division, and our friendship just grew. She was always so full of excitement...her laughter and smile would brighten my day! I recall once Toni came to work wearing a headband around her hair, saying she was going Au Natural and I said naw gurl, we're getting you a perm. Rod Cook called her Tumbleweed and that became her new nickname and she just laughed so loud everytime we'd call her that! Tumbleweed you are loved by so many people and I'll miss you greatly...now you're in Heaven with GOD and the angels, smiling and making them laugh and GOD's saying, Toni stop cracking that gum!
