Benjamin Lamar Coates, age 29, was born April 03, 1989 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Willie Johnson and Lynette Coates.

Benjamin went to be with the lord on Friday, October 19, 2018. He leaves behind his legacy to his parents, 1 daughter; Malia Joy Moody, 4 brothers; Willie Johnson Jr., Demetrice Coates, Montrell Williams, and Derlshaunte Johnson, 4 sisters; Tyneka Coates, Martesha Williams, Martina Williams, and Denasia Johnson, a special friend; Kim Kelley, and a host of other family and friends.

Benjamin was a mechanic for most of his life. He was known for his beautiful smile and great personality. He was generous, funny, and he loved kids. Overall, Benjamin was very hardworking, and he loved his family.

Public visitation will be held Friday, November 02, 2018 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Ivy K Gillespie Memorial Chapel, 1865 Eastern Avenue SE. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, November 03, 2018 at Ivy K Gillespie Memorial Chapel, at 2:00 PM. Friends may meet with the family a half hour prior to services at 1:30PM.
