Superintendent Tyrone Jay Matthews, Sr., age 59 was born May 9, 1959 to Annie and Kenneth Ross in Muskegon, Michigan.
He departed this life on Sunday, August 5, 2018 in Grand Rapids, Michigan and was preceded in death by his parents; Kenneth and Annie Ross, son; Courtney Brewster and brother; Tony Matthews.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife; Nailah Matthews, sons; Michael Hogan (Jennifer), Harold Hogan, Terence Betts and Tyrone Matthews, Jr., daughters; Tiffany Williams (Willie) and Kimberly James (Robin), brothers; Verlin Matthews, Jerome Matthews (Debra) and Michael Ross, sisters; Shirley Matthews, Annie Jordan and Mylon Reynolds (Gregory) and Sonya Ross, 20 grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 10, 2018 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Ivy K. Gillespie Memorial Chapel, 1865 Eastern Ave SE. The first service will be held on Sunday, August 12, 2018 at Fresh Anointing Church of God In Christ, 1121 Jefferson, Muskegon, Michigan at 4:00 PM. Second service is scheduled for Monday, August 13, 2018 at Fresh Anointing Church of God In Christ at 11:00 AM. Friends may meet with the family one hour prior to services at 10:00 AM.
Interment will follow services at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Grand Rapids, Michigan with repast at Cornerstone University, 3100 Leonard St. NE, Grand Rapids, Michigan 49525.
