Lavern Washington, age 68, was born January 3, 1950 to John and Mattie Liptrot.

Lavern departed this life on August 2, 2018 in Grand Rapids, Michigan and was preceded in death by her parents, 5 brothers; Lonnie C. Liptrot, Franklin D. Liptrot, Ivory Liptrot, Calvin Liptrot and Robert Reese and 2 sisters; Odessa Turner-Yarber and Annie Shanks.

She leaves to cherish her memory her husband; John Washington, 2 sons; Christopher Carey (Sharon) and Don Carey, 5 brothers; Carl W. Liptrot, Michael A. Liptrot (Judy), Jim Liptrot, Daniel Liptrot and John Liptrot, Jr. (Carol), 6 sisters; Patricia A. Spencer (Eddie), Gwendolyn Norris, Mary A. LaGrone, (William), Annie Bondon and Willa Nabors, 12 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.

Public visitation will be held on Thursday, August 9, 2018 at Ivy K. Gillespie memorial Chapel, 1865 Eastern Ave SE, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, August 10, 2018 at Messiah Missionary Baptist Church, 513 Henry St. SE, at 11:00 AM. Friends may meet with the family one hour prior to services at 10:00 AM.
