Mildred Angeline McMillan, age 86, was born July 23, 1931 in Dalark, Arkansas to Ed and Mamie Harris.
Mildred departed this life on February 16, 2018 in Grand Rapids, Michigan and she was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Mamie Harris; her husband Dr. Joseph McMillan, Sr.; two sons, Michael and Dwight McMillan; daughter-in-law, Deborah McMillan, two brothers, Ora Fred and Frank Harris, two sisters, Frankie Turner and Maxine Dickerson, uncle and aunt Charlie and Mary LeGrand who raised her, mother-in law, Lillian McMillan, father-in-law, Joe Lee McMillan, brother-in-law, John McMillan, and sister-in-law, Viola Dobbins.
Mildred is survived by her two sons, Charles E. McMillan and Joseph H. McMillan, Jr; one daughter, Diane J. McMillan (Robert Hurd, Sr.); sister-in-law, Harriet McMillan; grandchildren, Stacia A. (Edward) Gowens, Alfreda Bowden Clark, Chad E. G. (Alma) McMillan, Dana Hurd Spence, Shannon M. (Tony) Charles, Robert Hurd II, Leslie Hurd, and Ryan A. G. McMillan and his fiancée, Megan Darling; great-grandchildren, Christopher and Alexa Gowens, Charis Clark, and Connor J. McMillan; special daughter, Dr. Roycelyn Gray, cousin, Nannie Hudson and many special nieces, nephews, and wonderful friends.
Public visitation will be held on Thursday, February 22, 2018 at Ivy K. Gillespie Memorial Chapel, 1865 Eastern Ave. SE, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, February 23, 2018 at First Community AME Church, 500 James Ave. SE at 12:00 Noon, Friends may meet with the family one hour prior to services at 11:00 AM.
Services in Louisville, Kentucky will be held at Quinn Chapel A.M.E. Church
